The Ministry of Interior confirmed, today, Friday, that the security operation in the Al-Bataween area in the capital, Baghdad, achieved its set goals, noting that it aims to transform it into a civilized interface in the heart of the capital.
Director of the Ministry’s Relations and Media Department, Major General Khaled Muhanna, told the (INA): “In line with global strategies, the police have begun to exercise a preventive role in response to the crimes that occur, and it is a principle that many police agencies rely on to reduce crime rates,” pointing out, He pointed out that “Operation Al-Bataween is not only a security operation, but rather a service-based security operation, the purpose of which is to enhance security, provide services, and revive this area, which it is hoped will be a civilized front and a bright area in Baghdad.”
He added, “Service work is carried out in parallel with the security effort,” noting that “it includes cleaning it and removing violations and irregular actions, in addition to security work that aims to cleanse it of hotbeds of corruption and crime.”
He stated, “The operation witnessed the arrest of hundreds of people wanted on various charges, including possession of weapons and narcotic substances and acts of organized crime, as well as illegal foreign residents.”
He pointed out that “there is great satisfaction among the people of the region and the general Iraqi society regarding the operation, which achieved its set goals by purging it of hotbeds of corruption and crime, removing uncivilized manifestations, and providing services.”
He pointed out that “the process is continuing and awaiting the achievement of all its objectives before entering the second phase, which includes preserving its security achievements and developing the region in terms of services and civilization.”
