The Civil Police carried out an operation, this Thursday (27), to carry out seven search and seizure warrants on suspicion of fraud in hiring and supplying food for school lunches in the municipality of Japeri, in Baixada Fluminense.
Among the targets of Operation Overprice is the City Hall of Japeri, through contracts signed in 2017. The agents investigate crimes of embezzlement and undue waiver of bidding.
According to the police, companies were contracted to supply food for school lunches with incompatible values, which varied from 375% to market prices.
The investigation revealed that one of the companies signed a six-month emergency contract, worth BRL 571,555.05. However, the agreement was annulled by the TCE-RJ (Rio State Audit Court).
Afterwards, a public auction was held for the supply of meals, which hired other companies for more than R$ 10 million, according to the police.
Investigations are ongoing and, according to the police, the companies involved had their fiscal secrecy broken by court order.
