CHENNAI: Political party leaders have commented on the release of 6 people in Rajiv’s murder case. Annamalai (President of the Tamil Nadu): We want to make it clear to the people that the released criminals are not released because they are innocent. When the Supreme Court passed these judgments, the hypocrisy shown by the Congress party is astounding.
While senior Congress leaders half-heartedly condemned the release of the six from jail, their real leadership and his children had said in the past through letters and direct meetings that they had forgiven the convicts and had no objection to their release. For the Congress party, electoral victories in Tamil Nadu have become more important than national unity.
