Oppo is making headlines again with the launch of two new foldable phones – Oppo Find N2 and N2 Flip. The first is a sequel to the original foldable phone, while the second is completely new with a foldable design. Also, the Oppo Find N2 Flip marks the company’s debut in the global foldable device scene. While these devices are getting all the attention, the company has something a little less fancy to offer today – the Oppo A58x 5G.

If you’ve been following Oppo’s releases in the mid-range smartphone segment, this will sound like Dejavú. The truth is that almost two months ago, Oppo unveiled the Oppo A58. So what is the point of the new Oppo A58x variant? Upgraded specs? Well, not exactly, the A58x is more than just an upgrade. Changes the camera and charging speed, although both units are very similar.

Specifications of the Oppo A58x phone

The Oppo A58x has a 6.56-inch IPS LCD display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a dot notch. The cutout is home to the 8MP selfie camera. Moving back we have two big circles. The first contains a 13-megapixel primary camera, while the second includes a 2-megapixel depth sensor and an LED flash. This is our first discount for the Oppo A58x. The camera resolution drops to 13MP from 50MP in the regular Oppo A58.

Under the hood, the Oppo A58x packs the same aging 700 SoC. The modest SoC ensures 5G connectivity and enough power for everyday tasks. It is paired with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. There is also a micro SD card slot for further memory expansion.

The Oppo A58x draws its power from a 5,000mAh battery with just 10W charging. This is the second downgrade because the regular A58 features 33W charging. So, if you’re in the market for the A58x, be aware of how long it will take to get a full charge.

Other specifications include stereo speakers, a 3.5mm audio jack, dual-band Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.3. The phone runs on the old ColorOS 12.1 based on Android 12, so you will have to wait for an update that brings Android 13 and ColorOS 13 to it.

The Oppo A58x comes in black, blue and purple colors. The phone will sell for just CNY 1,200 ($173) on Oppo’s website.
