The presidential candidate of the anti-Chavismo majority, Edmundo González Urrutia, declared this Thursday that he is “firmly on the side of the people” of Venezuela, after four days of elections in which he said he had defeated his nine opponents, among they President Nicolás Maduro , declared the winner by the National Electoral Commission (CNE).
“I am firmly on the side of the people. I will not leave them alone, and I will always defend their love! Ride Venezuela. Glory to the Bravo people.”said the former representative in a short and unique message published this Wednesday on the X social network.
The opposition, and nine other politicians who participated in the elections last Sunday, were invited to appear this Friday, at 2:00 pm local time (6:00 pm GMT), before the Electoral Council of Supreme Court (GMT). TSJ)) – chaired by Chavista Caryslia Rodríguez -, who announced an investigation to “witness, in an unrestricted manner, the results” of the elections, in response to the appeal made by Maduro.
González Urrutia has not commented on the matter, nor his main supporter, the former deputy María Corina Machado, who called this Thursday to participate in demonstrations in all cities of the country on Saturday against the official election result.
The CNE, which reportedly suffered a cyber attack on its system, has not published the complete results – in violation of regulations – since Maduro was declared the winner, although 20% of the electoral records remain to be counted, which is accurate. to more than two million votes that could change the outcome.
The majority opposition, grouped in the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD), insists that its candidate won the elections, and created a web page with electoral records that – he says – prove his right.
Machado emphasized the need to reiterate that the PUD won and to explain outside the dispute with the official bulletin, also requested by the Carter Center, which warned that the Venezuelan election could not be considered democratic.
