(ANSA) – ROME, AUGUST 6 – “In acknowledging the postponement of the vote by Parliament on the four members of the board of directors of Rai until after the summer break, we appeal to the government forces to reflect on what to do. The impasse on the structure of the new management of Viale Mazzini is evident. As opposition forces, we invite the majority to work immediately on the reform of corporate governance”. The appeal is signed by the opposition group leaders in the Rai supervisory commission: Stefano Graziano (PD), Dario Carotenuto (M5S), Maria Elena Boschi (IV), Angelo Bonelli (Avs), Giuseppe De Cristofaro (Avs), Maria Stella Gelmini (Az). “With the green light, which occurred last March, by the European Parliament to the Media Freedom Act, the current law 220/2015, which governs Rai, appears outdated and requires a reform that goes in the direction of implementing the European law for media freedom”, the opposition members observe, and then continue “we invite all political forces to proceed to a discussion for an organic reform of Rai governance in the direction of the Media Freedom Act before proceeding to the nomination of the new leaders to avoid yet another division and to allow the public service to relaunch its mission while preserving its prerogatives of pluralism, autonomy and independence in the general interest of free information as guaranteed by our Constitution”. “This is – they conclude – a challenge that no one can avoid. We could lay the foundations for the parliamentary discussion in the Rai General States where institutions, political and social forces interested in relaunching the public service can participate”.
