The technological company Option has remained finalist in the Smart Logistics & Packaging Awards 2023. These awards reward the best innovation projects in the intralogistics, logistics and packaging sector. Specifically, the Girona company was presented in the category of “Robotics and automation in warehouse management 4.0” with a proposal that improves efficiency and sustainability in the preparation of packages through artificial vision.

His project turns package delivery into the most efficient and sustainable activity possible. Opsis detected that one of the current problems is that shipping is done in boxes that are not the size of what they contain inside. This results in wasted cardboard and increased use of shipping trucks. In your project they apply artificial vision to improve the placement of objects within a package so that they take up as little space as possible. To do this, a robotic arm first places all the elements of the order, calculating that they take up as little space as possible. The information is then communicated to a cardboard cutting machine that makes the specific box for each package.

The Opsis proposal was one of those that stood out among the more than 100 nominations that were presented at this year’s awards. The Smart Logistics & Packaging Awards 2023 are organized to coincide with Pick&Pack, the technology fair for the packaging and intralogistics sector that was held in Madrid at the end of April. The aim of the fair is to show the latest innovations either at the level of digitalisation, artificial intelligence, 3D printing or process systems.

The sector that will participate in the new industrial revolution

Opsis is a company that is using artificial intelligence in its day to day life. The company puts artificial vision at the service of the company that needs it to give it a comprehensive and tailor-made solution. In other words, they take care of everything from analysis and design to installation and maintenance of projects that bring so much profit to mainly industrial companies.

Since its creation in 2016, Opsis has worked for diversity of sectors. One of them is the railway sector, where he developed an artificial vision system project to automatically detect defects that may have train carriages in motion. A process that until now was done manually, which involved a very high investment of time and also a greater probability of error. Currently the technology of the Girona brand is used in four large scanners installed throughout Europe.

Opsis has also worked with companies in the food, textile, printing and software sectors, since artificial vision also allows quality control and monitoring of product uniformity.

The company is formed by a staff of 15 workers from a wide range of disciplines. Headquartered in the Girona Science and Technology Park, the challenge is to boost growth in sectors where artificial vision can bring more improvements, such as the packaging sector and the automotive industry.
