One of the largest German furniture retailers is in crisis. Opti-Wohnwelt has filed for insolvency proceedings under self-administration. A major growth spurt had brought problems.
Opti-Wohnwelt is in financial difficulties. Opti announced that the company had filed an application for self-administered insolvency proceedings with the Schweinfurt District Court. The court had approved the application. Attorney Stefan Debus was appointed as the trustee.
“The application for self-administration was anything but easy for us,” said Managing Director Oliver Föst. “But given the tense economic situation, it is the best way for the Opti-Wohnwelt Group, with its great tradition, to return to its former strength as quickly as possible.” Business operations are to be maintained.
According to its own statements, Opti-Wohnwelt operates 41 furniture stores in this country, making it one of the 20 largest furniture retailers in Germany. The company grew strongly in 2021 with the takeover of 20 new stores. These stores did not develop as expected. The industry publication “Möbelmarkt” stated that Opti-Wohnwelt’s sales for 2023 would be around 220 million euros.
