The Cabinet Committee on Law and Order recommended a holiday on April 9 before Eid to ensure smooth Eid travel, but the Cabinet did not approve it. However, one can take optional leave on April 8 and 9.
The Cabinet meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday (April 1). It was presided over by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. In the meeting, there was an unscheduled discussion about the Eid holiday.
At the press conference at the Secretariat after the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain informed the mentioned information.
The Cabinet Secretary said that government offices will be open on April 8 and 9. However, there is a provision of optional leave on Eid. According to the rules, anyone who wants to take leave.
He said, according to the observations of the Meteorological Department, this year Ramadan is most likely to be 30 days. As a result, Eid-ul-Fitr could be on April 11 (Thursday). The government has listed holidays on April 11 for Eid-ul-Fitr. The holiday will be as it is in the calendar. Office will be open on 8th and 9th. There (cabinet meeting) was discussed. This decision was made after detailed discussion.
The Cabinet Secretary said, this time it appears that the two Hijri months before the month of Ramadan were 29 days. Usually three consecutive months are not 29 days. This is a simple calculation. According to the review of the report of the Meteorological Department, this year’s Ramadan month is more likely to be 30 days.
If someone wants a holiday on April 9, will it be given? When asked, the secretary said, we have a system of optional leave. Those who apply to take optional leave in the prescribed manner, they can take it.
He further said that there is no need to issue separate instructions for this (optional leave). It is in our holiday rules. Every year when we do the calendar, optional holidays are written below the calendar.
Earlier in the morning, Minister of Liberation War Affairs and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order AKM Mozammel Haque said that the Cabinet did not approve the recommendation of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order. The Cabinet has said that many days of leave are already available. Meanwhile, if the holiday is given on April 9, the holiday will be longer. This can cause stagnation in work. However, those who are going away for Eid, can take leave if they want. They have that right.
