Orange and red alerts activated due to heavy rains in the capital

The Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection (SGIRPC) decreed the Activation of red and orange alerts in municipalities located in the north, west and south of the capital due to the strong rainswhich have caused fallen trees and flooding.

The SGIRPC reported that due to the persistence of heavy rains during the afternoon and evening of this Thursday, an orange alert was activated in the districts of Azcapotzalco, Coyoacán, Gustavo A. Madero, Milpa Alta, Tlalpan and Xochimilco, for which reason it urges the population to close doors and windows, not to cross streets or avenues with water currents, and to be cautious of falling branches, trees and tarps.

Meanwhile, a red alert has been declared for the municipalities of Álvaro Obregón, Magdalena Contreras and Miguel Hidalgo, so the recommendation for the population is to have important documents on hand and in a sealed bag, avoid flooded areas and, if driving, use fog lights.

In the western part of the capital, showers and hail were recorded with a record of 21 millimetres, conditions that are expected to persist throughout the night along with electrical activity.

Civil Protection has reported flooding in different areas of the capital, such as in Tezozómoc, in the Azcapotzalco municipality, and in San Ángel Inn, in Álvaro Obregón; as well as in Barranca del Muerto, one of the areas with the greatest impact, as it has severe flooding.
