BOLZANO. In South Tyrol the Alpha alert level was extended today. The decision was made at the end of the planned evaluation conference. For today, the orange alert level for floods remains in much of the territory, while for mass movements and debris flows the alert level has been downgraded to yellow.

“This afternoon the disturbance will continue to move eastward,” reports the meteorologist Günther Geier. “It rained a lot, especially in the central and western half of the territory, with peaks of 50 liters per square meter recorded on one side of Val Passiria. The snowfall limit in Alto Adige is currently still above 2500 metres. Precipitation is are easing and the weather is expected to improve for the next few days.”

“Water levels are rising,” he reports Stefan Ghetto of the Provincial Hydrology and Dams Office. “The level of attention was detected on the banks of the Adige river in Marlengo. It is increasing especially in the Adige valley, Oltradige, Bassa Atesina and in the southern area of the Alta Val d’Isarco. At the confluence of the Isarco and Rienza rivers they predict higher hydrographic levels than the previous event. Due to the already high water levels, combined with saturated soils, the levels detected in the southern sector of the Adige river are high and are expected to reach the early warning phase”.

The Provincial Roads Service is already ready to intervene and the Flood Service of the Civil Protection Agency is also on alert and in constant contact with the peripheral operational centres. Due to the wet ground, landslides and rockfalls could occur in the coming days. The firefighters of the Permanent Corps of Bolzano did not report any significant intervention, like all the safety areas active throughout the territory.
