Prime Minister Viktor Orbán held talks with BYD founder and CEO Wang Chuanfu in Shenzhen on Thursday.

During a tour of the company, Orbán was able to gain insights into the processes of the world’s leading manufacturer of e-vehicles. The guests were also introduced to the brand’s most modern electric cars, which are currently being marketed on the Hungarian and European markets. CEO Wang Chuanfu also briefed the Prime Minister on aspects of BYD’s operations in Hungary, where the company assembles e-buses in Komárom and operates a battery assembly facility in Fót.

Hungary is an important market for BYD

As Foreign Trade Minister Péter Szijjártó informed, Wang Chuanfu welcomed the Hungarian government’s new funding program to spread electromobility. Hungary is an important market for BYD, both in terms of production and sales. Szijjártó reiterated the Orbán government’s strategic belief that electromobility “will take the place of the traditional automotive industry, whether we like it or not. This is a fact that cannot be disputed. The only question that remains is whether Hungary wants to be at the forefront of this change or stay behind.”
