In a radio interview on Friday, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán commented on the conflict in Israel, security policy and illegal immigration.
“Hungary stands firmly on Israel’s side,” Prime Minister Orbán stated unequivocally to Kossuth Radio. Hamas’ terrorism is unacceptable. In times like these, the value of peaceful and stable conditions like those in Hungary becomes apparent. It is the job of elected politicians to protect them. Hungary has always been against terrorism, regardless of which country was the target of terrorist attacks.
According to Orbán, the conflict must be localized. There is indeed a war, but it is directed against terrorism. The great danger is that Israel will become involved in a war with a neighboring Arab country. However, an Arab-Israeli war would destabilize the region and shake up world politics so much that the shock waves would also be felt in Hungary. The task of Hungarian diplomacy is therefore to pursue a policy of de-escalation while at the same time recognizing Israel’s right to self-defense.
Orbán: “Shocking sympathy demonstrations”
“It is shocking that there are sympathy rallies for terrorists in many places in Europe. This has even been tried in Hungary. But there will be no permits for this here, as such a sympathy rally in itself represents a terrorist threat,” emphasized Orbán. However, such demonstrations of sympathy for terrorism cannot be prevented in several western cities. Accordingly, there are a large number of people there who approve of such actions.
During the great migration crisis of 2015, an enormous number of people were allowed to enter Western European countries uncontrolled, including certainly some Hamas supporters, who now pose a direct and serious threat to all Western European countries. Hungary is responsible for one of the largest Jewish communities in Europe. “It must not be the case that people of any religion feel threatened here,” emphasized Orbán.
“EU politicians are blind”
Regarding the EU’s migration pact, Orbán said that EU politicians were – with all due respect – blind. The Hungarian model alone works – there are no illegal immigrants in this country and there will be none. Instead of adopting this model, the EU wants to undermine it. New rules are intended to force Hungary to allow violent and aggressive people into the country. In addition, “migrant ghettos” are to be built for up to 10,000 people. Hungary will defend itself against this. “There must be political change in the European elections in June 2024!”
“Thank God we assessed the situation correctly in 2015! We have timely erected both the border fence and the necessary legal barriers to keep out of Hungary the terrorist threats that inevitably accompany illegal migration.”

Be open to all markets
On the challenges facing the economy, the Prime Minister said that the government will boost growth again next year. This will not be easy in an environment in which the others are not growing. Hungary only has a small internal market. That is why the export economy must be broadly based and open to all markets in the world.
