The Election Commission (EC) has directed the returning officers to ensure the safety of women voters in the upcoming Sixth Upazila Parishad elections.
On Monday (April 29), the deputy secretary of the organization’s election management branch said. It is said that the directive signed by Atiyar Rahman has already been sent to the field level.
According to the directive, all types of voters, especially women voters, should be encouraged to vote without fear and without hindrance. For this purpose all the concerned should be informed through appropriate publicity so that all categories of voters can be assured in advance about the activities undertaken to ensure security arrangements.
Patrolling of law and order mobile teams should be arranged to create a conducive environment for the voters to come to the polling stations smoothly and comfortably. At the same time, arrangements should be made to deploy more members of the law and order forces to the identified troubled polling stations along with the deployment of members of the law and order forces to the polling stations. Along with this, the security system should be strengthened in the dangerous areas and polling stations.
In the first phase, polling will be held in 150 upazilas on May 8, in the second phase in 160 upazilas on May 21, in the third phase in 112 upazilas on May 29 and in the fourth phase in 55 upazilas on June 6. In the first phase, 22, 24 in the second phase, 21 in the third phase and two upazilas in the fourth phase will be conducted in electronic voting machines (EVM).
