Chennai: Due to rain warning, the Consumer Goods Corporation has directed the regional managers in the delta districts, including Tanjore, to send the bundles of paddy stored at the direct purchase centers to warehouses.
The Consumer Goods Corporation of the State of Tamil Nadu procures paddy directly from farmers under a scheme of the Central Government. To this end, direct purchasing centers have been opened in the districts. Most of the direct purchasing centers do not have adequate accommodation.
Thus, paddy bundles are stocked outside direct stations. The delta districts, including Tanjore, Nagaon, Thiruvarur and Pudukottai, have been warned of heavy rains for a few days.
Paddy bundles placed inside the stations are told to be covered with large quantities of tarpaulin.
