ORF radio information: Hartmut Fiedler resigns as head of foreign policy

As the SN has learned, the head of the ORF Radio Information foreign department, Hartmut Fiedler, has resigned from his position.

Fiedler announced his decision to the ORF correspondents at their meeting in Vienna on Wednesday. Apparently the step has to do with the working conditions in the multimedia newsroom, the new journalistic control center in the ORF center that will be inaugurated in 2022. An official confirmation is pending: Hartmut Fiedler has not yet responded to a corresponding SN request; The ORF press office said it could not comment on this.

Hartmut Fiedler, born in 1964, has worked for ORF since 1988. He initially worked in the Teletext newsroom and as an editor for the Mittags-ZiB. From October 1989 he worked as a news editor in the radio’s current service, became head of the service in 1992 and subsequently worked for the radio’s foreign editorial team. From 1996 to 1997 and from 1999 to 2003, Fiedler was a correspondent in the ORF office in Washington. Between 2004 and 2007 he headed the ORF office in Berlin before becoming head of the foreign department of radio information.

Fiedler was considered the favorite for the position of foreign policy department head in the new ORF newsroom structure, which is currently being finalized.
