Organized crime groups that operate in the different regions of the state of Oaxaca, especially in the region of the Central Valleys, Coast and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, are recruiting young people from 12 to 17 years of age to perform functions as hitmen. , drug sales, vigilantes and falconing.

According to data from the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), in the Historic Center of the city of Oaxaca, an increase in the activity called falconeo has been identified, in which young people monitor the work of security elements public and thus prevent them from being arrested.

The head of the SSPC, Iván García Álvarez, warned that in this activity, not only young people recruited by organized crime would be involved, but also street merchants, and even public security elements could be participating.

Arrests have been made for falconing, this modality is one of the three strategies that crime seeks to try to circumvent police operations, so that when carrying out operations or arrests, they immediately issue the alert.

He pointed out that this gives the opportunity for merchants who set up illegally to remove their products or merchandise from public roads or for drug dealers to move away from areas with police presence.

According to data from public security authorities, the young people who carry out these tasks receive on average a daily salary ranging from 250 to 500 pesos from members of organized crime.

For this reason, he warned that those who are arrested carrying out falconing activities can be punished with imprisonment ranging from 7 to 15 years, and with fines of 200 to 300 UMAS.
