Enough is enough ! In the La Source district of Orléans, rats began to proliferate. Between the buildings, near the wide open trash cans, the burrows are clearly visible, and you don’t have to wait very long to see the rodents show up…
“For people, this is unacceptable,” storms Mayor Serge Grouard. “We are seeing an increase in populations, we are seeing them in broad daylight. So we decided to bang our fist on the table.”
This proliferation is undoubtedly explained by the combination of several factors, in particular the work carried out in the sector on the T17 tower, which was demolished at the end of October, or the garbage bins lying around and attracting rats.
“A global action”
In response, the municipality has decided to launch an all-out rodent control operation which will mobilize all stakeholders in the neighborhood, social landlords, co-owners, the university, the CROUS, the hospital, traders… It is also leading a campaign information to local residents to remind them of the right actions to fight against proliferation. “We have already carried out one-off actions with limited results. We need global action, we must deal with everything and everyone must take their part,” adds the elected official.
In public spaces, the solution consists of identifying infested areas and placing poisoned bait in the burrows “which kill the rats after four to eight days”, specifies the Hygialis company.
An assessment will be made in three or four months, and depending on the results, the operation will be extended if necessary, promises the mayor, until the situation improves.
