Orsi and Cosse close in voting intention. Raffo would have no chance against Delgado

The internal elections in Uruguay are nine months away, and the candidates of the different political parties are advancing their campaigns to establish their name among voters. Opción Consultores has carried out a study that yields interesting results on the preference of voters in the Frente Amplio and Partido Nacional parties.

Within the Frente Amplio, the current mayor of Canelones, Yamandú Orsiremains the leading candidate, although his advantage over Carolina Cosse has decreased and the election could become spicy. According to the survey carried out during the months of August and September, Orsi has 43% support, while Cosse follows closely with 39%.

In third place, with a considerable margin, is Mario Bergaraobtaining 6% support, and in fourth place is the mayor of Salto, Andres Lima, with 2%. 10% of respondents do not know or do not answer.

In May, Orsi led by 14 points over Cosse (49% to 35%). This change can be attributed to the explicit support that Carolina Cosse has received from the Communist Party, one of the most influential political sectors within the Frente Amplio and which brings a large flow of voters.

In the National Party, Raffo would have no chance of beating Delgado

In the official stores of the National Party, the Secretary of the Presidency, Alvaro Delgado, remains the most supported candidate, according to the survey. In a scenario that includes people who have not yet defined their pre-candidacy, such as Juan Sartori, Beatriz Argimón and Javier García, Delgado obtains a solid 49% support.

She is followed by Laura Raffo with 19% and Sartori with 10%. Next, Argimón has 9%, Jorge Gandini with 4% and Javier García with 3%. If the elections were today, none of these would have a chance of overtaking Delgado.

These results show Delgado’s strength within the National Party, consolidating himself as the favorite in this stage prior to the internal elections. The leader has neither confirmed nor rejected the idea that he is going to confirm his candidacy yet.
