The Broad Front (FA) candidate, Yamandú Orsi, has been positioned as critical of the current government in his recent statements and actions.

During a press conference held in Rocha, Orsi addressed the issue of security in Uruguaypointing out the differences within the government coalition and the need for a more coherent and determined approach to the country’s criminal policy.

Orsi questioned the lack of agreement between the parties in the government coalition regarding security. “Some talk about a security emergency, and others don’t,” he said, emphasizing the difference in the views and approaches of the various parties. In his view, to adequately address security, it is essential that there be “levels of agreement” between political forces. “We have to be clear where we are going. The government parties are in a big hurry,” he said, emphasizing the need for clarity and unity in security policies.

The front-runner also suggested that the next government must implement a “resolute criminal policy”. In his speech, he emphasized the need for a review of the penal system, referring to the possibility of “breaking” the Penal Code as part of a wider approach to improve justice and prison management in the country. According to Orsi, the solution to security problems is not found in isolated measures, but in a “level of agreement in society” that allows effective and sustainable policies to be implemented.

At a campaign event in Rivera, Orsi took the opportunity to criticize the management of President Luis Lacalle Pou, saying that the State has “withdrawn” from Uruguay, leaving the people “helpless”. These statements are set in the context of growing criticism of Orsi from different political sectors, who questioned his refusal to participate in forums and debates with other presidential candidates.

During his trip to Minas and Rivera, Orsi reiterated his criticism of the current State, emphasizing the impact of cutback policies implemented by the government.

According to the candidate, these policies have a negative impact on key areas such as education and health. “That’s how they withdrew from some polyclinics, how they don’t serve us and there are no medicines, because in fact what they decided at the beginning is to cut everything because they had to save the deficit and to reduce,” he said. Orsi emphasized that all areas of government cannot be treated equally when it comes to budget cuts, and emphasized that education and health must be prioritized.

At the same event, her current colleague, Carolina Cosse, also criticized the current government, urging the institutions “to do what they have to do.”

One of the latest events that Orsi is not expected to participate in is the Federation of Business Chambers presentation at the Expo Prado.
