by time news

Although for many it has been forgotten, the truth is that the Covid continues without respite. Variants of this disease multiply over the months: the latest, ‘Kraken’, detected in the United States, has already begun to reach many countries in recent weeks.

However, this Omicron’s sublineage He is not the only one who has drawn the attention of experts. Following the BA.2 strain, which became one of the majority in 2022, a new one has now emerged, ‘Ortro’also known as variant CH.1.1.

This is ‘Orthro’, the new variant of Covid

It was initially detected in November in the United Kingdom, where, just a few months after its detection, it has become one of the most affected: one in five cases of Covid diagnosed belong to this new sublineage, according to the Sanger Institute.

The British press is already talking about the “rapid spread” de Orthro throughout England since it was first detected in Leicestershire. According to some information, this new sublineage has a mutation called ‘P681R’ (present in the Delta variant), which can optimize virus entry into the cell and increase gravity of the disease in those affected.

The country’s health authorities warn that both Orthro and Kraken could overtake BQ.1 as the most dominant variants. However, British experts have clarified that this new strain of Omicron doesn’t seem to be more dangerous than Kraken.

This lineage is already in Spain, according to the Ministry of Health, which between week 48 and week 52 has detected five cases of this new variant. Despite this, the Ómicron variant continues to be the dominant one in our country today.

Main symptoms of the ‘Orthro’ variant

Like most of the Covid subvariants that have been arriving in our country in recent months, ‘Ortro’ also presents a series of symptom in those infected. These are the main side effects it causes:

  • Fever

  • Respiratory problems

  • Headache

  • Myalgia
