Oscar 2026: ‘Sinners’ Leads with 16 Nominations

Ryan Coogler’s Sinners is dominating the Oscar conversation, securing a record-breaking 16 nominations for the 2026 Academy Awards-a feat made possible by the introduction of a new “casting” category this year. The film’s success sets a new high, surpassing the previous record of 14 nominations held by Eva Against Eva, Titanic, adn La La Land.

Joachim trier’s Sentimental Value is also generating meaningful Oscar buzz, earning six nominations including Best Picture and acting nods for Renate Reinsvee, Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and stellan Skarsgard. The film is also recognized for its original screenplay, directing, international feature film, and editing. Fanning and Lilleaas will compete against Amy Madigan (Weapons),wunmi Mosaku (Sinners),and Teyana Taylor (Una Battaglia Dopo l’Altra) for Best Supporting Actress.

ahi (submitted by France), Sentimental Value (Norway), the Spanish film Sirat, and La Voce by Hind Rajab (Tunisia) are the five films vying for the Oscar in the “non-English language” category. Both Sentimental Value and L’Agente Segreto are also contenders for the coveted Best Picture award.

Timothée Chalamet has secured his third Oscar nomination for Marty Supreme, becoming the youngest actor to achieve this milestone. The 30-year-old actor previously received nominations for Call Me By Your name in 2018 and A Complete Unknown in 2025. This year, Chalamet is nominated alongside Leonardo DiCaprio (Una Battaglia Dopo l’Altra), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), Michael B. Jordan (Sinners),and Wagner Moura (L’Agente Segreto). marty Supreme is also in the running for Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay.

emma Stone is making history with Bugonia, earning two nominations-best Picture as a producer and Best Actress-and breaking multiple Academy records. At 37, Stone is the second-youngest person-and the youngest woman ever-to reach seven Oscar nominations. Walt Disney achieved this at age 34 in 1936, while Meryl Streep was 38 when she received her seventh nomination in 1988. Stone is also the first woman to receive double nominations as both a producer and actress for the same film twice, following Frances McDormand’s achievement with Nomadland in 2021 and her own with Poor Creatures in 2023. Stone will compete for Best Actress with Jessie Buckley (Hamnet), Rose Byrne (If I Had legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), and Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value).Bugonia is also a contender for best Picture alongside F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, una Battaglia Dopo l’Altra, L’Agente Segreto, Sentimental Value, and Sinners.
