Los Leaders Sport Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in the sports industry, have just announced their winners for the tenth consecutive year. Among the different categories is the prestigious list Leaders Under 40, which recognizes the top leaders under the age of 40 who have moved the sports industry forward in the last 12 months. In this list, of only 30 names, are the best sports executives and directors worldwide and this year the Spanish has been included Oscar MayoCEO of LALIGA.
Leaders thus recognizes the leaders on and off the field of play who, thanks to their management, advance the sector. Whether it’s from the point of view of the operations of the teams or the leagues, or how they interact agencies, sponsors and media partners -and how it all affects the fan experience-.
Óscar Mayo has been the CEO of LALIGA since 2021, an institution with which he has been linked since 2017, holding different positions. In these six years, Mayo has led the construction of a holding empresarial with more than 11 companies from different sectors such as education, the media, audiovisual development, entertainment, or technology, among others.
LALIGA highlighted in a statement that, under the direction of Óscar Mayo, one of the strategic projects most important in the Spanish competition, LALIGA Impulso, for which the investment fund CVC will inject close to 2,000 million euros to undertake projects of growth and consolidation from the sports and business point of view.
This agreement, a pioneer in Spanish professional sports, provides the necessary impetus for LALIGA clubs to advance 20 years in professionalization and development. Thanks to this project, a historical valuation of almost 25,000 million for the competition, thus becoming one of the most important transactions of the year in Spain.
LALIGA has also more than doubled its commercial income by managing the signing of key agreements that brought stability in the medium term and have made it the European league that generates the most commercial agreements. In addition, agreements have been reached with Mayo with innovative formats in the sports industry, such as the one signed with Port Aventura, the joint venture between LALIGA Tech y Globant, y joint ventures in China, MENA and the United States, the latter being with Relevent Sports, the basis for signing the largest international television agreements.

Óscar Mayo shares this award with another Spaniard, Charlotte Planasco-founder of Unik Sports, and the first woman to run a soccer player representation agency, specializing in women’s soccer.
In addition, in this year’s edition of the prestigious list there are also other great international leaders from companies and institutions such as the International Olympic Committee, FIFA, New Balance, Chelsea FC, City Football Group, beIN or Snap Inc., among others.
