“others have privileges and not me”, Newfel Ouatah kneels and refuses to fight

French boxer Newfel Ouatah did not want to fight his opponent Friday night in Montreal, thus sending a message to the French Federation.

The French Newfel Ouatah was to face the Canadian Simon Kean Friday evening in Montreal for a superfight scheduled in 10 rounds. But an event came to immediately stop the face-to-face between the two men.

While the gong has just sounded in the Casino de Montréal this Friday, boxer Newfel Ouatah kneels down and raises his fist in the air. Referee, spectators, opponents… Everyone is surprised by this gesture, explained at length by the Frenchman after the end of the fight.

“The French boxing federation sent me a letter today to tell me that I was not insured in the event of a problem. Others have privileges, but I don’t.” affirmed the French boxer after the fight.

An episode that risks following the boxer for a long time, as his protest was unexpected, although understandable. His duel against Simon Kean was originally broadcast in mondovision, on ESPN and RMC Sport in particular. A reaction that the whole world could observe on television.

“This fight I wanted to do, I took a month and a half to prepare myself and the costs that go with it. What I did was a protest. I apologize to everyone and especially Eye Of The Tiger Management,” clarified Ouatah before concluding “we don’t play boxing”.

This is enough to embarrass the French Federation after this event. As a reminder, Newfel Ouatah was crowned heavyweight champion of France in 2010 and now fights in the Canadian league of Eye Of The Tiger Management.
