Federal deputy and evangelical pastor Otoni de Paula will have to face yet another lawsuit, this time at the highest court in the country, the Federal Supreme Court (STF). This is because the magistrates formed a majority to make him a defendant for having offended Minister Alexandre de Moraes.

According to the complaint against the parliamentarian, Otoni would have practiced defamation five times and insult 19 times between June and July 2020. At the time, the deputy even asked for Moraes to be removed, calling him a “scoundrel”.

“The alleged absence of specific intent does not constitute a matter strictly of law and is not clearly and evidently demonstrated, which is why it does not appear to be able in the present case to give rise to rejection of the plan of the complaint”, said in an excerpt of his vote the minister Nunes Marques, rapporteur of the case, according to the Poder360.

staunch critic

Since 2020, Pastor Otoni de Paula has been presenting fierce criticism of Minister Alexandre de Moraes. “I will not back down a millimeter. Within what democracy allows me, within what the Constitution allows me, this federal deputy here, this Brazilian citizen, invested with parliamentary authority, will not retreat a millimeter”, he said on one occasion.

Predicting retaliation, the pastor even recorded a video to say that he could be arrested at any time. “I don’t have a tail stuck with anyone”, declared the deputy in the recording.

On the occasion, the pastor spoke of the investigations against his name in the investigation of “anti-democratic acts”, also conducted by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, whom the deputy has already called a “despot”.

“I am aware that my voice is bothering me. If it happens, don’t feel sorry for me. I am aware of the battle I am fighting and who I am fighting against”, said the pastor in the recording. Learn more below:
