The Modi government at the Center has taken major action against the platforms providing digital content. The government has banned Ototi app, website and social media handles serving obscene content online. These apps, Ototi platforms and social media platforms were presenting obscene and objectionable videos in the name of entertainment. Let us tell you that the apps which have been banned include 18 OTT platforms, 19 websites, 10 apps and 57 social media handles. The ban has been announced by the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Why was it banned

The OTT platform has been banned for violating sections 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, section 292 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.

Why was it banned?

Giving the reason for banning OTT platforms, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said that the content hosted on these platforms was obscene and showed women in a derogatory manner. It featured nudity and sexual acts, which tainted the relationship between student and teacher.

Who was banned?
The government has also banned 12 Facebook accounts, 17 Instagram accounts, 16 X accounts and 12 YouTube accounts, which were violating the rules.
