Ottawa: Police chief Peter Sloli has resigned over allegations that he failed to control a truck strike in the Canadian capital, Ottawa.
The resignation was confirmed by the Ottawa Police Service Board. A former Canadian soccer player, he has been part of the police force for 27 years. The service will end in 2024. The strikers blocked the truck for 19 days. Finally, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau applied the state of emergency to end the strike.
Measures will be taken to ban the collection of donations from the people, to freeze the bank accounts of the protesters and to cancel the vehicle insurance. Protesters are receiving financial support, mainly from the United States.
Trudeau applied the War Measures Act, which applies to emergencies. This law was first used by Pierre Trudeau, the father of Justin Trudeau.
