Held on Tuesday in a palace in the Canadian federal capital, this ceremony was marked by the presence in particular of the Canadian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, Robert Oliphant, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Defence of Canada, Marie France Lalonde, and the member of the House of Commons and Government Spokesperson, Mona Fortier.

Also attending the reception were ambassadors and high commissioners accredited to Ottawa, Canadian MPs and senators, representatives of Canadian companies operating in Morocco and Moroccan Associations in Canada, in addition to members of the Moroccan community.

In a speech on this occasion, Ms. Otmani recalled in particular that the glorious Throne Day symbolizes the unity of the Moroccan nation and reflects the strong and unwavering ties uniting the Moroccan people to their august Sovereign and the Monarchy.

She indicated that the Monarchy, an institution of which Moroccans are so proud, contributes, thanks to the leadership and avant-garde Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to the consolidation of the foundations and values of democracy, to the promotion of human rights, and to the promotion of the socio-economic development of the Kingdom.

This dynamic is achieved in particular through dynamic diplomacy “which spares no effort to highlight the role of Morocco in the concert of nations and also and above all to make the justice and legitimacy of the national cause, namely the Moroccanness of the Sahara and full respect for the territorial integrity of the country, well understood and recognized,” the diplomat stressed.

“Morocco is working tirelessly to put an end to the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara through a political solution based exclusively on the Moroccan autonomy initiative and within the framework of the territorial integrity and national sovereignty of the Kingdom,” she said.

The diplomat recalled in this sense the support of a majority of countries including major powers, the most recent of which, France, “which no later than July 30 announced by presidential letter addressed to His Majesty the King, its full support for the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty, as the only basis for achieving a political, just and negotiated settlement of the Sahara issue.”

In this regard, she called on Canada, a partner and friend country, to join this positive and constructive trend, “which can only fully benefit the stability, security and socio-economic development of the entire region.”

Regarding Moroccan-Canadian relations, Ms. Otmani indicated that the two countries have ensured, since the establishment of their diplomatic relations 62 years ago, to develop, strengthen and diversify their cooperation ties both bilaterally and multilaterally.

The ambassador also highlighted the economic dynamism that the Kingdom is experiencing and the international credibility it enjoys thanks to the avant-garde Vision of His Majesty the King, recalling the major reforms initiated to improve the business climate and promote high value-added industries as well as the establishment of world-class infrastructure.

For his part, the representative of the Canadian government, Robert Oliphant, praised the major progress made by the Kingdom over the last 25 years, particularly in the areas of democracy, the promotion of human rights and the improvement of the status of women and their empowerment.

“All this dynamic makes Morocco a safe and reliable country and partner not only in North Africa, but also in the entire African continent and the Middle East region,” he said.

Referring to Moroccan-Canadian relations, he welcomed the sharing of common values and the strong ties of friendship and respect existing between the two countries, adding that trade has been strengthening over the years.

The ceremony was marked in particular by the screening of an institutional film retracing the impressive development progress accomplished by Morocco under the leadership of His Majesty the King.
