The Secretary General further specified that the past year was marked in the Drâa-Oued Noun Basin by the completion of construction work on the water treatment station and the installation of pipes for the supplying the town of Zagora and certain neighboring communities with drinking water.
The year 2023 was also marked by the completion of the construction work on the Fask dam, he continued, noting that this hydraulic structure with a storage capacity of 79 million m3 will make it possible to strengthen the supply of drinking water from the city of Guelmim.
For his part, Youssef Ben Hamou, director of the Drâa-Oued Noun Hydraulic Basin Agency, spoke of the exceptional climatic situation, particularly in the Drâa-Oued Noun basin, indicating that the deficit in precipitation recorded in this basin during the hydrological year 2022-2023 is estimated at 24% compared to the average of a normal year.
This situation has had a negative impact on water supplies at the dams in this basin which recorded a deficit estimated at 34% compared to the annual average, he indicated, assuring that the Agency has taken several measures to cope. to the lack of water in this region.
Among these measures, Mr. Ben Hamou cited the ban on seasonal crops that consume water, the carrying out of exploration and exploitation drilling, the use of tank trucks and mobile stations for the desalination of water from sea and the intensification of awareness campaigns on water saving.
This board of directors was marked by the adoption of twelve partnership agreements. These conventions particularly concern the strengthening of protection against flooding as well as the implementation of integrated projects in the water sector.
