Earlier this evening, the law was approved in a preliminary reading that allows for the appointment of an additional minister in a government ministry who will be responsible for certain areas of the ministry’s activities.
The law is promoted in favor of following the coalition agreements, in which a Knesset returned from religious Zionism will be appointed a minister in the Ministry of Defense in addition to the Minister of Defense who will probably be from the Likud.
Like the other laws that passed tonight in the Knesset plenum in first reading, this law also received a lot of criticism from the opposition, but this time some of its members were caught red-handed attacking a law that they promoted in the previous government.
One of them is outgoing Defense Minister Benny Gantz who attacked the law, even though a similar law was passed in the previous government so that he could appoint another minister in the Ministry of Defense.
The one who mentioned this was the political commentator Amit Segal who wrote: “Benny Gantz is now reasoning why the bill of another minister in the ministry is terrible and terrible – even though such a law was passed for him and for Michael Biton in the 23rd Knesset.”
As mentioned, the Knesset plenum approved in a preliminary reading the basic law proposal: the government (amendment – additional minister in the ministry) of MK Simcha Rotman and Nissim Vetori. The proposal was supported by 61 Knesset members compared to 51 who opposed it, and it will be forwarded to the regulatory committee to determine the committee where the discussion will take place in preparation for the reading first
During the debate, Gantz said: “Establishing a ministry within this ministry is not recommended in any organizational structure, and certainly certainly in regards to security issues. From the coalition agreements, what I understand is that the government is asking for the establishment of a Ministry of Defense B, for Judea and Samaria affairs. This is the role of the bill. The lesson The first thing in the army is unity of command, there is no mission with two commanders.”
