Organized by the Thanoon Center for the art of Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation, in partnership with the Regional Directorate of Culture and other institutional and private partners, this event, which continues until February 26, aims to strengthen cultural and artistic exchanges between artists and followers of Arabic calligraphy, capable of promoting the image of the singularity of this traditional art.
This cultural event, whose opening ceremony took place in the presence of the wali of the Oriental region, governor of the prefecture of Oujda-Angad, Mouad Jamai, heads of decentralized services and elected officials, in addition to of calligraphers, was marked by an exhibition of several works and canvases highlighting the various calligraphic styles and forms, as well as the organization of an international conference, artistic workshops, among others.
In a statement to MAP, the president of the Thanoon Center, Mohamed Amine Bouhid, underlined the importance of this first event in which more than 150 calligraphic works from 14 countries in the Arab world and abroad took part, in addition to professors and great artists and calligraphers, as well as students from the center.
“This event aims to promote the nobility of Moroccan calligraphy, which is part of the original calligraphies from which Arabic and Levantine calligraphy comes, currently known in all countries of the world,” he said, adding that this Salon is The ambitious objective is given to discover this precious art and to spread its teaching to rising generations.
For his part, the director of development at the Oriental Region Agency, El-Kebir Hanno, estimated that this event will contribute to strengthening the influence of the city of Oujda at the global level, particularly with the presence of personalities who have marked the history of Arabic calligraphy and ornamentation from brother and friendly countries of the Arab world, making it known that the city of Oujda will have its place in the agenda of Arab cities known in this area
