This week, we bring you a selection of concerts and festivals. Classical music in the Notre-Dame church in Auvers-sur-Oise (Val-d’Oise) or in the fortified barn of Meslay (Indre-et-Loire); jazz in a club in Paris or in the grounds of the Château de Maisons-Laffitte (Yvelines); programs mixing pop, song, folk and rock on a farm in Rai (Orne) or at the Château de Bellocq (Pyrénées-Atlantiques)… But also voices from all over the world at the abbey of Thoronet (Var), and the passage in Parisian halls of two groups, Sparks and The War On Drugs.
Musical tribute to Vincent van Gogh in Auvers-sur-Oise
the 42e edition of the Auvers-sur-Oise Festival (Val-d’Oise) has decided to celebrate Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), who rests alongside his brother Théo in the town cemetery.
It is in fact in the small Notre-Dame church, painted by the Dutch artist – he created more than 70 canvases in Auvers-sur-Oise from May 20 to July 29, 1890 – that most of the concerts take place. The last week will be more specifically devoted to him with the piano duo Katia and Marielle Labèque in a program combining Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and Philip Glass. A show performed by Lambert Wilson and Bruno Rigutto will be built around the letters from Auversoise exchanged between the painter and his brother.
Since its beginnings, artists from all over the world, from Mstislav Rostropovitch to Max Richter, from Christa Ludwig to Cecilia Bartoli, have performed in Auvers-sur-Oise: opening this year, Pretty Yende in a belcantist program.
But the Festival has never ceased to promote the discovery of young talent. Those of yesterday were called Trio Wanderer, Emmanuelle Haïm, Denis Matsuev, Patricia Petibon, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger or Anastasia Kobekina. Those of today are called Illia Ovcharenko (pianist in residence), Lisa Strauss, Vladimir Percevic, Gabriel Durliat, the young choir of Ile-de-France, the Paris Boys Choir. The closing will be done in style with William Christie, his flourishing Arts and his Garden of voices with Partenope the handle. M.-A. R.

The swing of the Laurent de Wilde trio, at the New Morning, in Paris
At the end of Laurent de Wilde’s new album, Life Is a Movie (Gazebo/L’Autre Distribution), there is a voice, that of the pianist, who speaks more than he sings – his phrasing nevertheless has beautiful expressive curves. The composition, the ninth on the disc, is called Mes insomnuits and concludes this trio opus by De Wilde with double bassist Jérôme Regard and drummer Donald Kontomanou.
