The summer holidays are approaching and if, this year, they are Parisian and in tribe, family or friendly, the 21st century youth hostels, with decoration and comfort on the small onions, are the good option to stay together without spending too much!

Jo & Joe Paris Gentilly: street art and XXL table football

ABACAPRESS/THIERRY SAUVAGE

A nugget that shines in the sun even when facing the ring road. The setting of Jo & Joe, a building with a metal facade with golden reflections, which hides a seven-storey wooden frame, stands valiantly on Boulevard Paul-Vaillant-Couturier in Gentilly, in the Val-de-Marne. Once through the front door, another world opens up. A huge, extremely bright and brightly colored hall, a surprising blue and white stag, a gigantic circular bar, an XXL table football, arcade games, a self-service beer wall (to be paid directly with your room), large tables to enjoy a chicken burger (breaded chicken, crispy onions, bacon, melted cheddar) served with fries (15 euros), or share a vegetarian platter (18 euros), street art for all the floors make this place a lively and welcoming place for its customers as well as for people from the neighborhood or passing through.

All these little people will be able to enjoy the atmosphere and the evenings which continue on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 2 am. But not in the garden! It closes at 10:30 p.m. sharp because, as François Leclerc, brand director, says, “Jo & Joe is always a good neighbor” which respects the sleep of the inhabitants of the surroundings as well as its customers. These have 485 beds divided into ten private double rooms, two triple rooms and dormitories for 4, 5, 6, 8 or 12 people. To each combination, its solution!

Jo & Joe Paris Gentilly, 89-93, avenue Paul-Vaillant-Couturier 94250 Gentilly. Private double room from 100 euros, triple room from 120 euros. In dormitories (4, 5, 6, 8 or 12 people) from 29 euros.

MIJE: mansions and cobbled courtyards

ALIKAPHOTO A.C

Sleep in the heart of the Marais, this district with the air of an open-air museum between buildings from the Middle Ages, mansions, cobbled and tree-lined streets, for less than 100 euros? It’s possible ! It is here that the MIJE, an association created by post-war teachers, acquired in the 1970s three buildings slated for demolition to rehabilitate them as youth hostels. Almost half a century later, the two 17th and 18th century buildings look great and offer 120 rooms – 434 beds – for schools and individuals. It’s a little intimidating that we cross the big blue door of the Auberge de Fourcy, the main site. A patio welcomes us, charming, and opens onto a common room with a few poufs, tables, games… and an electric piano. We move forward into the next courtyard, where magnificent wooden footbridges connect the buildings to each other.
