Bulgarians won the doubles title at the men’s tennis tournament of the international federation calendar at the “Diana” sports complex in Sofia.
Anthony Genov and Nikolay Nedelchev, seeded #2, defeated the first seeds Artur Gea (Fr) and Vladislav Orlov (Ukr) in the final 6:2, 6:7 (3:7), 10:7. Ours trailed 1-4 in the championship tiebreaker, but won 9 of the next 12 points.
Genov, 22, already has seven ITF men’s doubles titles, four of them this season. The 21-year-old Nedelchev has three doubles trophies in his career so far, two of which are from this year.
The two have another triumph in tandem in December last year in Heraklion (Greece).
The “wild card” participant Ivan Ivanov qualified for the singles final after eliminating the fourth seeded Mariano Tamaro (IT) 6:3, 7:5. Earlier this week, 15-year-old Ivanov scored his first win in an ITF men’s event.
In the other semi-final match, the Argentinian Franco Ribero prevailed over Alexander Vassilev 6:1, 6:2.
