El Salvador excelled in the fifteenth Ibero-American Biology Olympiad 2022, held in Peru, thanks to the effort and dedication of Luis Corea Morán. The teenager obtained, for the first time in the history of our country, the absolute gold medal in the competition in which 14 nations participated virtually.

For having raised the name of El Salvador —and to recognize the discipline, dedication, as well as the effort of the 17-year-old student— the deputies awarded him the honorary distinction of Notable Student.

During the plenary session in which the young man was awarded, the president of the Legislative Branch, Ernesto Castro, stated that this administration recognizes the triumphs of young people.

“Today, unlike in the past, we celebrate the achievements of our young people who excel in areas of knowledge such as mathematics and biology. “Luis Coreas gave El Salvador, for the first time, absolute gold in this Olympics,” said Deputy Castro.

In addition, the president applauded the work carried out by the Young Talent program of El Salvador, because it has allowed several Salvadorans to stand out in various branches of science.

After receiving the distinction, Korea expressed to the plenary session: “This is one of my greatest achievements and I am proud that the name of El Salvador resonates. Young man, dare to dream big. Be the change, the first step is to believe in yourself.”

The award-winning student is part of the Young Talent program of El Salvador, which has allowed him to participate in the Ibero-American Biology Olympics; in which he won a gold medal. She also participated in the Immediate Biology Olympiad, organized by UKBC in the United Kingdom, earning a silver medal and first place in the XI National Biology Olympiad.
