College Basketball Week Ahead: Key Matchups and OVC Player Recognition

A packed week of college basketball is set to unfold between november 17th and November 23rd, featuring a diverse slate of games and teh recognition of outstanding Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) players. From high-profile clashes against ranked opponents to crucial conference matchups, the upcoming days promise exciting action for fans nationwide.

Game Schedule Highlights

the week kicks off on Monday, November 17th, with several contests including Indiana University East traveling to Southern Indiana at 6:00 p.m., and Kansas City facing off against Eastern Illinois at the same time. Chicago State will then take on Western illinois at 7:00 p.m.

Tuesday, November 18th, features a single game with Southeast Missouri visiting Wichita State at 6:00 p.m.

wednesday, November 19th, offers a morning matchup as Indiana State heads to SIUE for a 10:00 a.m. tip-off. Later in the day, North Alabama will compete against Tennessee State at 6:00 p.m., and Morehead State will challenge #21 Louisville at 7:00 p.m.

Thursday,November 20th,is the busiest day of the week,with five games scheduled. Eastern Illinois will face #22 Michigan State at 5:30 p.m., followed by ETSU at Tennessee Tech at 6:00 p.m., Little Rock at Arkansas at 6:30 p.m., Bradley at Western Illinois at 7:00 p.m., and UT Martin at New Mexico at 8:00 p.m.

Friday,November 21st,sees Northern Illinois travel to SIUE for a 6:00 p.m. game.

Saturday, November 22nd, includes USC-Upstate at Morehead State at 9:00 a.m., Eastern Illinois at Central Michigan at 12:00 p.m.,Lindenwood at Omaha at 1:00 p.m., and UT Martin at UTEP at 8:00 p.m.

The week concludes on Sunday, November 23rd, with Tennessee State visiting #17 Vanderbilt at 2:00 p.m.

Did you know?-The OVC began sponsoring women’s basketball in 1986. Eastern kentucky won the inaugural tournament, and has secured the most tournament titles with eight.

OVC Players of the Week Honored

The Ohio Valley Conference has announced its Players of the Week, recognizing exceptional performances from student-athletes.LaReesha Cawthorn, a freshman forward from Tennessee Tech, has been named both Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week.

Cawthorn led the Golden Eagles in scoring during a recent win over Middle tennessee, impressively shooting 9-for-11 from the field and contributing eight rebounds, an assist, a steal, and two blocks. She also added eight points and nine rebounds with two steals, an assist, and a block against kennesaw State. “Her impact on both ends of the court has been remarkable,” stated a conference official.

Zy Thompson, a junior forward from UT Martin, earned the Newcomer of the week title.Thompson showcased a perfect shooting performance, going 9-for-9 from the field against Fisk, finishing with a game-high 19 points, alongside three rebounds, three assists, and a steal.

Other players nominated for Player of the week included Sydney-James Desroches (Eastern Illinois), Ellie Brueggemann (Lindenwood), Ali Saunders (Southern Indiana), and Mia Nicastro (Western Illinois). Nominees for Newcomer of the Week were Abbie Boutilier (Eastern Illinois), Aleshia Jones (Lindenwood), shannon Blacher (Southern Indiana), and Mallory Shetley (Western Illinois). Cam Ward of UT Martin was also nominated for Freshman of the Week.

The recognition of these athletes highlights the growing talent within the OVC and sets the stage for an exciting season of competition.
