Social services are mobilizing so that there are no people without shelter and warm food

“All institutions are mobilized and working in connection with the complicated winter situation in the country. More than 1,000 communities are still without power, but it will take time for emergency crews to respond everywhere. The work of the teams to repair the damage in the power transmission system is very difficult, and in some places impossible due to the intense rainfall and strong gusts of wind.” This was stated by the Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov after the extraordinary meeting in the Council of Ministers. It was attended by the Ministers of Internal Affairs, Energy, Defense and Regional Development and Public Works – Kalin Stoyanov, Rumen Radev, Todor Tagarev and Andrey Tsekov, the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Chief Commissioner Zhivko Kotsev, the Chief of Defense – Admiral Emil Eftimov, the heads of the Directorate General “Fire Safety and Protection of the Population” and the Agency “Road Infrastructure” – Chief Commissioner Alexander Jartov and Engineer Yasen Todorov. District governors from the country joined the meeting online.

The prime minister recalled that after his order on Friday, all regional governors held meetings of their coordination headquarters to check and confirm the teams’ readiness for work. The Prime Minister thanked all the institutions that worked in the field during the night. Over 100 people have been freed from the snow traps. 150 passengers, including children, stranded on a passenger train in the Burgas region were also evacuated.

Roads in the country are still being cleared. All emergency teams have been mobilized. “In Shumen, Silistra, Razgrad, it will continue to be heavy in the coming hours because of heavy snowfall and hurricane-force winds,” said Academician Denkov.

The Prime Minister called for the mobilization of all social services. “People should not be allowed to remain in the snow and cold without shelter and warm food,” said Academician Nikolay Denkov.

State forestry enterprises of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food system are also involved in clearing snow and fallen trees and branches.

The Prime Minister also announced that information is being collected from all regional education departments regarding the need to switch to electronic learning in the crisis areas, where this is possible. “My appeal is to all school principals, all regional administrations to prepare as quickly as possible and parents to monitor what information will be received regarding the educational process tomorrow,” stressed the Prime Minister.

There is no indication of any danger of the country’s dams overflowing, but they remain under constant surveillance due to the expected snowmelt in the coming days.
