Nearly 300 children from Vratsa were examined for free by the team of the “Child Health” program, which has been conducting similar campaigns for 13 years. The initiative was started by the idea of Dr. Asen Medzhidiev and his colleagues. It is a joint effort between leading children’s specialists from the university emergency Pirogov Hospital and the Metropolitan Medical College.
A surgeon, ophthalmologist, gynecologist, neurologist, dermatologist, ENT specialist, gastroenterologist, urologist, and angiologist were available to all pre-enrolled children and their parents. The examinations took place in the building of the branch of the Medical University in Vratsa.
“This is an extremely good initiative for the children of Bulgaria, said Dr. Irena Mazneva, president of the doctors’ union in Vratsa. Interest in the reviews was high. Parents with their children were waiting for us since early morning. The doctors, who are proven specialists from all the elite hospitals in Sofia, did not return a single patient, even those who were not registered, but came straight to the spot. The goal is early detection of health problems and assistance for subsequent treatment. The medics came completely free of charge and voluntarily for the sake of the children’s health.”
