In Oberösterreich this weekend is the first child vaccination campaign for Five to eleven year olds started since the EU Medicines Agency EMA as well as that National Vaccination Board On Thursday the green light for the use of the corona vaccine from BioNTech/Pfizer have given for this age group. Before that, children in Upper Austria had already been vaccinated as part of “off-label use”. According to the crisis team, a total of 3,095 children between the ages of five and eleven were vaccinated up to and including Friday.

Of the around 2,000 vaccination appointments available this weekend for five to eleven year olds, 1,839 appointments have been booked so far, the state’s crisis team announced. As of Saturday noon, 1,878 appointments for child vaccinations were free until Saturday, December 11th. More dates will be added next week.

Most effective protection even for children

Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP) and health officer LH deputy Christine Haberlander (ÖVP) stressed in a broadcast on Saturday evening that vaccination is the most effective protection against a severe course of the disease, even for children. The vaccination offer for children in Upper Austria will be further expanded. Starting next week, there will be vaccination routes on special days own children’s vaccination lines set up. There is enough time for advice and for answering questions from parents and children. For most appointments, advance notice is required. Also resident General practitioners and paediatricians would offer the corona vaccination for children from five to eleven years in Upper Austria.
