A specially created comic featuring popular influencers showed little ones how to stay safe online through real-life examples
The educational initiative Digital Scouts is successfully continuing its mission to help children and young people learn about the risks in the virtual world through games and fun. Since the start of the year, more than 32,000 teenagers have gained new knowledge and skills to recognize online threats by becoming digital scouts as part of Yettel and the Center for a Safer Internet (SafeNet) campaign.
The joint initiative was supported by some of the most favorite creators of digital content for children and teenagers. Borislav Valov, Milen Kolev and Borislava Todorova took part in the spring edition. They’ve created educational and entertaining content to help teens tackle the challenges of the digital world while having fun and winning prizes. The telecom has enriched the topic of online safety with four new highlights: “Inappropriate content”, “Digital image and digital footprint”, “Phishing and personal information” and “Gaming culture”.
A specially created comic in the second edition of the initiative turned popular influencers into comic characters. Kristiyan Nikolov, Petar Baikov, Antonia Sarafova, Hristina Georgieva and Yanitsa Mihailova found themselves in four different situations and with their own example encouraged responsible behavior in a virtual environment. Illustrations cover topics such as phishing scams, talking to strangers, gaming culture and digital image. They are the work of Neda Malcheva, known for her funny drawings about children and parenting.
Influencers have become true virtual ambassadors of goodness and used all their creativity to help their followers remember and apply tips for safe surfing online. With the tools of social media, they were able to create content in which they skillfully combined their recognizable style with the risks of the Internet and methods to protect against online threats.
The topic of digital security is also present in this year’s edition of Familytlon. During the festival dedicated to family, sports and healthy lifestyle, children participated in the interactive quiz of the Digital Scouts telecom. Young and old practiced creating strong passwords, spotting fake news and answering questions about sharing personal data online.
The Digital Scouts campaign is part of the overall Safe Internet and Digital Skills Development program, a priority and goal in Yettel’s sustainable development strategy – to engage 40,000 children and youth with online safety messages every year. This year, the telco is building on its longest-standing socially relevant program to date with the Digital Parenting initiative to support adults as well. In partnership with the Center for a Safer Internet, the operator collects in a special page applicable and up-to-date advice to help families communicate more easily with children on the subject and prepare them for the risks online.
