Over 800,000 residents in China’s Jiangxi affected by heavy rains, floods- Dinamani

More than 8 lakh people were affected by heavy rains and floods in Jiangxi, China on Monday.

Heavy rains and floods since May 28 have wreaked havoc in 80 districts of the province.

So far, 76,300 hectares of farmland have been damaged, causing a direct economic loss of 1.16 billion yuan (about $ 174 million), according to the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters.

Meanwhile, China issued a yellow alert for rain in various parts of the country on Monday. The Met Office forecast 2 days of heavy rain in Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi, Guangdong, Fujian, Taiwan, Yunnan and Liaoning.

The Met Office also forecast 180 mm of rain in some places.

The Center has directed the local government to make appropriate arrangements, implement traffic control measures on roads affected by heavy rains and direct traffic in waterlogged areas.

It recommended cutting off power supply to low-lying areas, relocating people to safer areas, and checking drainage systems in cities and agricultural lands.
