BOLZANO. Il Regional food bank recovers and distributes food for people in difficulty. Established in 2003, since 2008 it has joined the network of 21 Food Banks operating in Italy. The warehouses in Bolzano and Trento are used to store and distribute long-life foodstuffs. In the field of prevention and recovery of surplus food and fresh products, it operates with the “Siticibo” project, in favor of charitable structures throughout the local area. It supplies 46 organizations and associations South Tyroleans who, in 2023, helped 9,206 people in the province of Bolzano.
Provincial Councillor for Social Cohesion Rosmarie Shows Off recently met with its representatives. “I have personally experienced, at the Banco in Val Passiria, how precious and important this type of volunteering is. The Food Bank implements an aspect of social sharing and, at the same time, practices sustainability by ensuring that food is not thrown away, thus reducing waste,” Pamer said.
During the meeting, important topics were addressed: the difficulty in finding products, encouraging donations, increasing collection capacity, increasing access to Fead (the European Fund for Aid to the Most Deprived) and Agea (the Agency for Agricultural Payments) with the support of associations by the Regional Bank and, finally, creating networks of local collaborators.
