Overclocked to Tesla and reached 347 km / h with it

Using a module that releases a software lock, a company was able to break the speed record of a Tesla vehicle on the runway

We talk quite a bit about the relatively unique concept of Tesla, whose vehicles are able to receive software updates that can do quite a bit: from saving you to driving to the garage for recall, adding noise to the horn and car and also avoiding potholes on the road and adding Sentry Mode to Israelis. But once there is a vehicle that is so software-based, you can be sure that someone already knew how to take advantage of it – and that is exactly what a small startup did, when it managed to take Tesla’s most powerful model, and release all its limitations.

The vehicle was supposed to reach a certain speed, and reached the market with a limitation – but programmatically

The Tesla Model S Plaid was launched with the promise that it would be able to cross the 200 miles per hour line at 322 km / h, but when it reached the first customers, they discovered that it was capable of reaching a lower speed of only 262 km / h. mercy.

Later, although the company released a “track mode” that allows it to climb to 282 km / h – but it is still very slow, right? This is exactly what a Canadian startup called Ingenext thought. The startup develops modules that release programmatically locked features in vehicles – and in light of the fact that Tesla has proven itself that the vehicle speed is limited programmatically and not technically, he decided to try and create a module that would release that as well, and succeeded.

To make sure this development is completely safe at 300 mph and above, the company replaced the car tires and installed bigger and more powerful brakes. Not only did the Plaid manage to cross the 200 miles per hour line – the promised destination – but it also managed to reach an almost unimaginable speed of 216 miles per hour, which is 347 km / h. A mass-produced sedan, not a racing car – so Tesla’s achievement is pretty amazing.

Do not expect to buy it

The electrek reporter who was present at the moment of breaking the record, claimed that the noise on the runway was insane and more reminiscent of the noise of a taking off plane than of a Tesla passing by on the road. In addition, he claims that when the vehicle returned to them, all of his cooling systems were activated together to a fairly loud noise. Surprisingly, when the vehicle crosses the same line at 200 miles per hour, the color of the speedometer changes to red, so it seems that Tesla also does not so much want the vehicle to reach this speed.

This is not the first time that Ingenext has made headlines with Tesla, and generally, the company is in a hurry to block Ingenext’s developments so it is likely that this impressive but dangerous echo in unskilled hands will also be blocked later. until next time.
