On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, the councilors of the Citizen Participation and Social Control Council (Cpccs) appeared before the Oversight Commission of the National Assembly to address various issues, highlighting the controversy over technical problems that affected the right to vote of a councilor.
Commission President Pamela Aguirre opened the session by stressing the importance of transparency and the correct representation of the popular will in the Cpccs processes.
Pamela Aguirre, president of the Oversight Committee, began her speech by recalling a recent incident in which Assembly member César Umajinga was unable to vote due to connection problems. Aguirre stressed the importance of ensuring that these types of technical problems do not affect the right to vote of the councilors, stressing that the popular will must be duly represented in the collegiate bodies.
“The important thing and the spirit of the Constituent Assembly is that the popular will that is represented by the councilors or the assembly members, depending on the collegiate body, is respected. If due to a technical problem a certain legislator or councilor cannot vote, there must be a solution,” said Aguirre.
Aguirre questioned the president of the Cpccs, Andrés Fantoni, about the measures taken when these technical problems occur and how transparency is guaranteed in the Council’s competitions. In addition, he stressed the need to regain public confidence in the Cpccs processes.
The president of the CPCCS, Andrés Fantoni, thanked the Council for the opportunity to appear and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and legality.
Fantoni explained that he assumed his position in April 2024 and detailed the process of appointing authorities, mentioning that all the members of the shortlist for the presidency of the Judicial Council meet the necessary requirements. /El Expreso
