Overwatch 2 Introduces New Control Map “Samoa” in Season 7

Overwatch 2 developers are paying attention to the classic Control mode, which hasn’t received as much attention since the game’s launch. In an effort to revitalize the mode, a new Control map called Samoa is being introduced in Season 7.

While Overwatch 2’s new Push and Flashpoint modes have had mixed reception, many players still have a preference for the classic modes carried over from the first game. Fortunately, Control is getting some love with the addition of a new map.

The Samoa map consists of three diverse locations with a tropical backdrop, bringing a refreshing burst of color to the game that sets it apart from other maps.

In regards to the upcoming Samoa map, here’s what we know so far:

The decision to focus on new multiplayer maps and consistent balance updates led Overwatch 2 developers to prioritize those aspects over a full PvE campaign. Since then, multiplayer content, PvE missions, and the Flashpoint mode have been launched.

After the release of Flashpoint, the developers have decided to revisit an older mode and introduce a new Control map – Samoa.

The map consists of three distinct points. The first point, Beach, is an oceanside map with small villas and huts serving as cover for players. The control point itself is sunken into the map, creating strategic options for attackers and discouraging defenders from camping on the point.

The second point, Downtown, offers a more enclosed map with narrow passageways and verticality. It funnels players through packed streets towards a large, open point with a tower in the middle.

The final point, Volcano, features a lava pit lining the control point, enticing Lucio players to push their enemies into the fiery depths. This map provides more open spaces, allowing for long-range combat. All three maps offer different playstyles, requiring players to adapt between rounds.

Furthermore, speculation has arisen that Samoa may serve as a precursor to the addition of Mauga, a hero anticipated to be included in Season 8. As for Samoa, players can expect it to be available on October 10 when Season 7 begins.

With the introduction of the Samoa map, Overwatch 2 aims to bring new life to the classic Control mode and cater to players who prefer the familiarity of the original game’s modes. The diverse locations and vibrant tropical setting of Samoa are sure to provide an exciting and visually stunning experience for players.
