Ovidio Guzmán López, who was extradited last Friday to the United States by Mexican authorities, will appear this Monday, September 18, before the Federal District Court in Chicago.

The alleged drug trafficker, son of Joaquín Guzmán Loera ‘El Chapo’, will be represented by Jeffrey Lichtman, who also represented his father in the trial in which the founder of the Sinaloa Cartel was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2019, for charges related to drug trafficking.

This was reported by American media such as The New York Times (NYT) and ABC. Ovidio Guzmán faces several charges in the United States, due to accusations filed in Washington, Chicago and New York against him and his brothers, known as “Los Chapitos.”

According to the report by NYT journalist Alan Feuer, the case in Chicago, where he will be tried, is based on investigations carried out in that city, but also had the collaboration of investigators from Washington and San Diego, in addition to incorporating a large amount of evidence from a group of cooperating witnesses.

The 40-page accusation against him and his brothers Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar, Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar and Joaquín Guzmán López, refers to the sale of drugs and violent crimes since 2008, the newspaper mentions.

Additionally, for his alleged participation as a “logistics coordinator” for the cartel in supervising large shipments of cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana to the United States.

Likewise, for the transfer of profits from the sale of drugs from the United States to Mexico, where they were presumably laundered.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) registered ‘El Ratón’ with the number 72884-748 and describes him as a 33-year-old man with white skin.

Ovidio Guzmán arrived in the United States last Friday, after having been arrested by Mexican authorities in January of this year.
