Erode: In Erode, 250 private hospitals and 800 doctors went on strike.
In Erode, the health department has put a ‘seal’ on the Sudha Hospital, Erode, in the case of illegal egg retrieval from a girl. Later, the seal was removed by order of the High Court. Against this, the Tamil Nadu government appealed to the High Court. Thus, the court allowed resealing. District Medical Services Joint Director Premakumari went to seal.
As the hospital management asked for a copy of the court order, he returned. In opposition to the order to seal, on behalf of the Indian Medical Association, outpatient treatment units in 250 private hospitals in the district were closed yesterday. 800 doctors from Erode branch of IMA went on strike.
IMA National Vice President Raja said: We are fully cooperating with the Tamil Nadu Government and the High Court order. This hospital is functioning as a multi-departmental hospital. It is not appropriate to seal the entire hospital when there is alleged wrongdoing in one department. This is what he said.
Consultation meeting of IMA, administrators and doctors was held. Subsequently, they filed a petition at the Erode Collector’s Office. Associate Director of Medical Services Premakumari said, “Two days have been given to discharge 95 patients in a private hospital. Once the copy of the court order is received, the hospital will be sealed,” he said.
