Well, Producers from the parish of Oyacachi, belonging to Napo, received one thousand kilos of silage to feed the cattle that were left without pastures due to landslides and flooding of the rivers caused by the intense rainfall that occurred during the last weekend, from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), through the District Directorate of Napo.

“This food supplement is crucial for cattle nutrition in times of scarcity,” said Daniela Jurado, District Director of Napo, during the delivery of the silage tanks.

In addition, the Napo District Office provided assistance to 39 producers, caring for 179 cattle, 11 pigs and three sheep. This support was possible thanks to the four MAG brigades, made up of 14 technicians specialized in the care and attention of livestock. In addition, ranchers who were previously trained in vaccination and vitamin provision joined in the relief efforts.

“We implement these actions in accordance with our responsibilities as the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock. That is why we have provided vitamin treatments to cattle and pigs, with the aim of mitigating the impact of inclement weather on livestock,” said Daniela Jurado.

Gilberto Aigaje, president of the Oyacachi Cattle Ranchers Association, on behalf of his community, thanked the technicians and authorities of the institutions “for their visit and the help provided after the natural disaster that occurred on the morning of Sunday, June 16.”

In addition, in a coordinated action with the Decentralized Autonomous Government of Oyacachi, the Prefecture of Napo, BanEcuador and the Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investments and Fisheries, the institutions carried out a survey of information with the purpose of obtaining an accurate diagnosis and taking the most appropriate inter-institutional actions to support the affected producers.

The economic activities of the families that make up the community are mainly focused on livestock farming, cheese production, wood crafts, tourism and fish farming. More than 90% of the inhabitants are dedicated to the latter.
