The diabetes injection Ozempic helps regulate blood sugar levels. Since it curbs appetite, it can also help with weight loss – but not without risks.

Many people dream of losing weight quickly and easily without much effort. The weight loss syringe Ozempic, which is based on the active ingredient Semaglutid, should now make this possible. Although Ozempic is a very effective medication for people with type 2 diabetes that is difficult to control, it is now being used more and more as a diet supplement. The reason for this is that the drug not only lowers the blood sugar level and protects the blood vessels, but also curbs the appetite and thus helps to lose weight.

The weight loss syringe Ozempic is based on the active ingredient Semaglutid. This mimics the hormone GLP-1, which is produced in the duodenum. The hormone is not only responsible for the feeling of satiety, but also slows down gastric emptying. The hormone GLP-1 and thus also semaglutide are also involved in the release of insulin.

Ozempic needs to be injected once a week. The drug lands in the subcutaneous fatty tissue with a needle and can be conveniently administered independently and at home in the upper arm, abdomen or thigh. The drug was originally intended for people with type 2 diabetes who also have coronary disease.

In diabetics, the release of insulin is inhibited. They cannot regulate their insulin levels themselves. The result: the blood sugar level rises faster and the body can no longer lower it itself. With the help of the active ingredient Ozempic, however, diabetics who already have complete insulin resistance are also able to restore their own insulin. If Semaglutid is injected regularly, insulin production increases again and the blood sugar level regulates itself – almost by itself.

Drugs with semaglutide not only work on insulin resistance, but also on appetite regulation and the feeling of satiety. If the active substance reaches the brain, it sends a satiety signal to the stomach. Patients feel fuller faster, but also longer. Semaglutide also mimics the hormone GLP-1, which slows down the process of gastric emptying. The drug reduces the desire for junk food, i.e. foods with a lot of fat and carbohydrates.

Ozempic is therefore also suitable for losing weight. People who take the active ingredient regularly can lose up to 17 percent of their body weight. This “side effect” of the drug is therefore being used more and more frequently in the treatment of obesity and in healthy people.

Anyone who thinks that the weight loss injection is a simple and quick solution to overweight is wrong. Because the drug with the active ingredient Semaglutid must be taken permanently so that there is a sustainable weight loss. Discontinued again, there is also a risk of rapid weight gain – insofar as no lifestyle change has been made.

Since semglutide changes important bodily functions, the drug must be taken under medical supervision. The following side effects may occur when taking Ozempic: nausea, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, headache, vomiting, and inflammation of the pancreas.

Despite the sometimes serious side effects, more and more people in Germany are taking the “weight loss injection”. However, this has serious consequences: According to the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfARM), the high demand for Ozempic has repeatedly led to temporary supply bottlenecks, which are expected to continue.
