A few years ago, the drug Ozempic was only known to diabetics – it is now on everyone’s lips, mainly thanks to Hollywood stars and social media like TikTok.

The ingredient is given as an injection once a week and causes rapid weight loss. The drug is produced by the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, and the drug requires a prescription in both Austria and the USA.

Developed for diabetics

However, Ozempic was not developed as a diet, but for diabetics. The effect occurs through the ingredient Semaglutide one, this one helps to lower blood sugar. After initial tests, however, it turned out that the drug had a practical “side effect”: It made you feel full longer and reduced the feeling of hunger. After this discovery, Novo Nordisk carried out tests on obese people and the subjects’ body weight actually decreased.

Elon Musk cheered

Soon after, the weight loss wave rolled through Hollywood fairly quickly. Elon Musk even hailed Ozempic as a revolution in the diet market – he himself wants to have significantly reduced his weight with it. It was also noticed that some stars have lost significant weight in the last two years, sometimes within a few weeks. First and foremost, reality star Kim Kardashian, who had to fit into an original Marilyn Monroe dress for her look for the 2022 Met Gala. The remedy is now trending on TikTok. Users report rapid weight loss results – without changing their eating habits or lifestyle. The demand increased so much due to the PR hype that bottlenecks arose and even diabetics could no longer obtain the drug.

In the meantime, however, more and more critical voices are being raised. People who have tried the remedy report a real aversion to food. There would be nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting. The British “Guardian” even writes of an “eating disorder in the form of an injection”.

Hanging skin as a side effect

While most medical professionals agree that the drug can be a great benefit for people who are severely overweight, it’s unclear what side effects will occur when people who are already lean are already taking the drug.

As far as Hollywood is concerned, the cosmetic surgeons may have lost one or the other liposuction, but Ozempic is flushing money into the beauty docs’ purse in a roundabout way. Due to the rapid weight loss, many people would have to contend with sagging skin and wrinkles on their necks and faces – and so they would find their way back to the doctor’s office.
